What do the following titles have in common?
All of these are titles which have been challenged. Somewhere in Canada in the past 30 years, individuals or groups have tried to have these books removed from schools, libraries and bookstores. The list of challenged authors includes Alice Munro, the 2013 Nobel Laureate for Literature.
I teach Harry Potter to my seventh grade students every year, and every year one or two parents have a problem with it. Usually, after I explain that I’m not trying to teach “witchcraft” to the students, they will allow their child to read the book, but I sometimes have to plan an alternative unit for students who are not allowed to read Harry Potter.
Thanks for sharing this list! 🙂
